The Broad Street Market Alliance (“Market”) announced today that the City of Harrisburg has notified the Market that construction and final inspections are nearing completion at the new structure across from the Stone Building and that it would soon turn over keys to the new structure. The Market intends to open the new structure to the public for the first time as part of a “soft launch” on Thursday, May 23.
Nine vendors will operate out of the new structure:
Cherished Treasures
Diaspora
Doggie Delights
Fisher’s Delights
Lil’s Pretzels
Peach Ridge Produce
rijuice
Taylor Chip
Two Brothers BBQ
“Following last year’s tragic fire, the Broad Street Market’s customers, vendors, and supporters have understandably been waiting a long time for this day. But Harrisburg is a resilient town and the community has stepped up to finally make this day a reality,” said Eric Hagarty, Chair of the Market. “When the public has the chance to see the new space on May 23, we think it will be apparent that despite the exterior, it is so much more than a tent - it’s a wonderful, vibrant place to get the produce, meats, and treats we’ve been missing for months. And it’s the first step on the Market’s road to lasting recovery.”
Completion of this project would not have been possible without support and generous contributions from:
Harrisburg Mayor Wanda Williams’s administration, which managed the construction effort, and Governor Josh Shapiro’s administration for their support;
The McClure Company, which installed plumbing at no cost to the City;
Touch of Color Flooring, which donated commercial-grade vinyl flooring;
Midtown Property Management, which is providing facilities and leasing support to the Market for free;
Members of the Carpenters Local 431 and the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, who performed carpentry work inside the structure for free; and,
KCS Electric, which installed electricity in the building.
